Standards of Practice

The Inspection Process

All of our inspections are performed using the American Society of Home Inspectors standards of practice and a strict code of ethics.

The List shows areas of inspection according to ASHI Standards of Practice

1. Structural System- Foundation and framing of floors, walls, ceilings, and roof


2. Exterior- Wall coverings, flashing, trim, doors, decks, balconies, steps, porches, railings, eaves, fascias, and soffits, grading, vegetation, drainage, and retaining walls, driveways and walkways


3. Roof System- Materials, drainage systems, flashing, chimneys, and roof penetrations


4. Plumbing System- Water supply and distribution systems, drain, waste and vent systems, water heating and hot water supply systems, vents, flues and chimneys, fuels storage and distribution systems, sump pumps and sewage ejectors and related piping


5. Electrical System- Service drop, entrance conductors and cables, service equipment and main disconnects, grounding, interior service panels and subpanels, conductors, overcurrent protection devices, light fixtures, switches, and receptacles, including ground fault and arc fault circuit interrupters, presence of smoke and/or carbon monoxide detectors


6. Heating System- Easily opened access panels, installed heating equipment vent systems, flues and chimneys, and distribution systems


7. Air Conditioning Systems- Easily opened access panels, central and permanently installed equipment, distribution systems


8. Interior- Walls, ceiling, and floors, steps, stairways, and railings, countertops, and cabinets, doors and windows, garage vehicle doors and operators, installed ovens, ranges, microwaves, dishwashing machines, and food waste grinders by operating in the primary function


9. Insulation and Ventilation- Insulation and vapor retarders in unfinished spaces, ventilation of attics and crawl spaces, kitchen, bathroom, and laundry (dryer) exhaust systems


10. Fireplaces and Solid Fuel Burning Appliances- Fuel burning fireplaces, stoves, and fireplace inserts, fuel burning accessories installed in fireplaces, and chimneys and vents
